| NOĆNIK, UJUTRO | THE NIGHTBIRD AT MORNING |

Na zrcalu se pokazala zraka još zelenoga sunca. Nočnik sabire zvijezde, zmije i zmajeve i ulazi u zdenac u kome zeleno se zabada duboko u zemlju. I tu, na dnu dubine, on rasprostire svoje igračke; dok sunce sazrijeva u pećnici dana on ulazi u zabranjeni grad gdje zvone zlatna zvona i pušta svoje zmajeve, več pripitomljene, ali koji če ga jedne noči, ipak, proždrijeti. |
A ray of the verdant sun flashes in the mirror. The nightbird gathers his stars, snakes and dragons and descends into the well where green stabs deep into the ground. And there, in the depths of the deep he lays out his toys. While the sun ripens in the oven of the day he enters the forbidden city where golden bells toll and releases his dragons, tamed indeed, but which one night still will devour him. |
