ritrae .la natura e si risente d'ogni sua circostanza, lo
ripropone .nel .modo .
più .concreto. .
Con la voce .del torrente .o il
respiro del mare, .con l'aria di città .o di altura,
.evoca in chi la colse
l'ora e la stagione. .Disseccata, serba ancora notizia di come il sole la
toccava.

My herbarium of lichens clutters the room and saturates the air with
a smell of underbrush. A Sample Kit of the World - or nearly so - is
what it contains, in the form of wood splinters and rock fragments.
Because collecting .plants .means
.collecting places. .Nothing retains
more about a site than the plant that sprang to life there. .Intrinsic to
it as only .a living portrait .can be,
.and .affected .by
.every circum-
stance, .it embodies a vivid, .concrete .
sense of place. .Evoking the
voice .of a .waterfall .or the breath of the sea, .preserving a whiff of
the air in the city .or up in the hills, .
a plant captures .for the person
who picked it a precise hour and season. Dried out and brittle, it still
holds out the knowledge of how the sun caressed it.
